A bit about us
Our mission is to get people all around the world back into high street shops. Today our retail technology platform helps shoppers find over 1.5 million LIVE products stocked in local shops all over London, ready to be ordered for 1-hour delivery or click&collect. Whether they’re a small independent or your favourite high street brand, we believe it should be easier to get what you want from a real shop than ordering it online.
We’re a young company and already making waves across the industry.
Whether being approached by Google to pilot our tech, as headline speakers at WIRED’s annual retail event, or by securing backing from Europe’s leading retail investors at True, we’re out to make an impact in the world. You will be deeply involved with pushing our ground-breaking technology forward through constant innovation in ways that will truly impact people’s lives on a day-to-day basis.
So come join us and help change the way we all shop!
We’ve recently completed a pivot in our business, shifting from a consumer focussed destination to a platform technology feeding our Real-Time Local Inventory data into third party platforms. As part of this change we’re re-shaping our engineering team, and are looking for a contract back-end engineer for 3-4 months who can bring wisdom and experience across a number of crucial projects. You’ll be in a versatile role, and will love both working hands-on in the code as well as making strategic recommendations to the business.
Key projects you will be integrally involved in include:
Improving the reliability and performance of our current architecture
Building out business scaling automations and processes
Rebuilding our marketplace payment system
Developing reporting and analytics tools based on our Real-Time Local Inventory data
Who you are
We are looking for engineers with a minimum of 5 years relevant commercial experience. You should be equal parts team player, rapid implementer, and hungry to learn and mix-things up in a brand new market. Fit is important to us – we want you to enjoy working with the NearSt team and have fun!
You’ll hit the ground running if you come with experience in:
Node.js and Python inside Docker
AWS (especially ECS, EC2, SQS and Lambda)
Developing your own APIs and connecting to external data sources
Distributed or microservice architectures
You’ll really impress us if you also come with any of these skills under your belt:
Structuring and working with large datasets and databases
A solid grasp of eCommerce and/or retail product data challenges
Experience working in a small, scrappy, high-energy, high-output startup environment
Leadership experience in a small team setup
Real ownership of what you’re building within a small, tight-knit team
Startup workspace in the heart of Shoreditch (dog-friendly!)
Fresh fruit, coffee, tea (the usual)
Lots of office plants (some real, some not…)
Monthly promo codes to spend on NearSt
A challenging position working on something that can truly impact all of our lives
We think a great workplace is filled with all the diversity the world has to offer. This means we make no judgment about the things that make you, you - whether that be gender, religion, sexuality, race, or a secret love for Emacs. If you’re excited by our mission, we’re excited to meet you!
