Role and responsibilities

We are seeking an enthusiastic Front-End Developer to join the Kobas team. We are looking for someone to be a significant contributor to our web applications and EPoS software, who can demonstrate strong ReactJS, Modern JavaScript (ES6 – 10), HTML 5 and SASS/CSS skills, with some experience using Redux, Webpack, Yarn, and AngularJS.

Our production team is fully remote. We have worked in a distributed manner for several years and we know how to make that work properly. Kobas code has been inspired by Cornish Beaches and Spanish sunshine, and from London to Bucharest. We use Slack and Teams to keep in touch and work closely and collaboratively.

Technology-wise, Kobas is currently written in PHP 7.4 with front-end applications using React 16.8.6 and SASS, as well as AngularJS 1.7.9 and LESS. Moving forward, our focus will be continuing to develop with React, updating and sometimes replacing legacy code with new designs and features. Git is our version control system, and we track feature development and bugs in YouTrack. Our production platform is 100% Amazon AWS, from Route 53 through S3, EC2 instances and of course RDS.

About you

If all the terms and technologies above strike a chord with you, you’ve got a serious advantage here. Other stuff that would be handy:

UX Focus: you know the importance of good UX, and you know how to achieve it.

Compatibility: you understand how to maintain web-apps across browsers and devices.

Teamwork: you need to know your tech, but we are all about people and working together.

Technologies: any experience with other technologies that we use is always a plus: PHP, SQL, Git, Gulp, NPM, Jasmine, RESTful APIs, data modelling, automated testing, Linux command line.

We work in a small team (for now) and we are looking for someone who can take ownership from day one and help the team. We are not looking for drones to clean up our bugs, and we are always open to hear about better ways of doing something. We are looking for someone to muck in and grow with us as we do.

· Implement brand-new features and products, from detailed stock-control systems to a customer-facing online ordering with hundreds of thousands of users across the UK.

· Deliver continuous improvements across our platform. Our platform began twelve years ago and it gets better every day. We release weekly and react quickly.

· Problem Solving: we solve big problems for our clients and that means we need big ideas from our team.

· Fix bugs: bugs, bugs, bugs!

· Design interfaces: we do the hard work to make complex tasks simple.

· Develop API integrations with third-party providers to super-charge our platform and give our clients a single source of truth.

Location

Whilst our team is fully remote, Kobas keeps two offices for our commercial teams, with whom we keep close ties, based in Borough, London, and Humberside. We work flexibly, but our general office hours are 09:30 – 18:00 UTC+0. For this role, we are looking for someone who is UK based.

We are looking for someone to ideally start in this role on 6th April 2021. The role is permanent, subject to success in a 3-month contract period.

- Phone Interview: this will be a brief chat with our Delivery Manager about your experiences and your personal goals and how these could fit with our team, how we work, and what we do.

- First Interview: a video call with our Delivery Manager and CTO, consisting of an in-depth discussion about your skills and work experience, and exactly what we are looking for in a new member of the team.

- Second interview: if both sides are happy after the first stage, we can progress to the technical stage. This will be a video-call conducted by members of the engineering team, including a technical assessment.

- Decision: at this point, you will receive a job offer, or some feedback on your application to help with your ongoing job search.
