Karfu is seeking a full-time Marketing Executive to take our platform from a prototype in private beta, through into public beta, followed by a full commercial launch of the product.

Job description

We are now looking for a Marketing Executive with relevant experience who can join our small team and help us achieve product-market fit through customer acquisition and engagement. The ideal candidate will be someone who has learned their craft working on a range of marketing projects and who is ready for the next step up.

As a new-to market start-up, Karfu’s key challenge is one of customer acquisition. With a stage appropriate media budget, we need to find as many novel ways to reach, convert and engage consumers as possible in partnership with the Founding team, our Product team and Content Editor. In addition, we also need to reach and engage with potential marketplace providers.

Our Marketing Executive will be primarily responsible for social media activity, digital advertising, email marketing (including CRM) and community management across our owned and social media channels. This will require the creation and managing the production of marketing materials and assets, including copy, imagery (including GIFs and animation) and simple video.

The weighting of activity amongst these responsibilities will flex accordingly depending on the timeline for the business and whether we are in private beta, public beta or post launch. You’ll work with our CEO to consider broader marketing strategies and tactics, for example, offline marketing and partnership activities, especially as we evaluate results from our initial efforts.

Your partner in crime will be our Content Editor. You’ll work with them to understand their website content creation efforts and synchronize your activities to amplify the reach and impact of any content created. Together, your shared goal will be to increase our organic traffic from any source and in doing so reduce our potential reliance on paid advertising activities.

You will be responsible for managing our three key social media channels based on our audience research. For consumers, these are Facebook and Instagram, and for our marketplace providers LinkedIn. This will include content planning and research, content creation (written, image and video), content scheduling and posting, responding to consumer comments and analysing content performance. You will use either the platform's own posting tools, or recommend specific 3rd party social media software like Hootsuite and Buffer to manage this day to day.

You will also be responsible for our email marketing activity. This will include a regular email to consumers and providers. This will include content planning and research, content creation (written, image and GIF), content scheduling and sending, and analysing email performance. You will also contribute to our CRM’s activities, working with the Product team to decide on appropriate email, app and text notifications and ensuring design and copy is consistent with other email activities.

At an appropriate stage for our public beta and launch, you will also manage our paid digital advertising activity. This will include the Google suite of advertising products (Adwords, DisplayNetwork, YouTube), and Facebook (Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram). This will include advertising planning and research, advertising creation (written, image and video), advertising scheduling and posting, and analysing advertising performance.

Finally, you will drive membership of and manage a Karfu community through our two beta’s and post-launch. We envisage that consumers will choose to engage with the channel of their choice, which means our consumer community will be split across social media channels (Facebook and Instagram), on our online forum hosted on Karfu.com, and via instant messaging tools or chat interfaces like Intercom or Whatsapp. Our marketplace provider community will be focused on LinkedIn and a provider only section of the forum.

This will include repurposing and reposting content into our community, engaging with them via posts and comments on other social media platforms, our forum or chat tools and analysing community performance. You’ll work with our Founding team to raise their social media profiles and increase their activities to enable them to engage with prospective marketplace providers.

You’ll also be responsible for developing and measuring the performance of your activities and campaigns. You are able to understand, create and act on website and social media analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs). This will include understanding and using a variety of different analytics software and producing and presenting performance reports to the company.

Whilst you will be the sole marketing hire, you will have a variety of support and will not be alone. As a small team, you’ll have direct access to and work closely with the Founding team. We will work with you to assess the scale of the tasks ahead and prioritise the initial launch requirements and assess what is realistic to achieve on an ongoing basis.

You’ll also have Design support to help you create required marketing materials and assets, including imagery and infographics. You’ll work closely with our Project Manager to prioritise marketing activities to match the overall requirements of the platform build. This includes creating ideas for new and feeding into existing tools (like calculators) which support users needs based on feedback you receive from marketing activities.

    • You’ll be helping normal people save money across a wide variety of different mobility purchases.

  • Help people explore more sustainable mobility options

    • Karfu shows consumers the reality of the environmental impact of their mobility choices so they can view their overall impact.

    • You’ll help people understand the trade-off between new vehicle types (including electric) and their traditional equivalents, as well as highlighting the differences between ownership and usership.

  • Help providers sell more effectively and efficiently

    • Karfu helps 3rd party providers put relevant products in front of a consumer.

    • Where possible and appropriate for a consumer, you’ll be working with the technical teams to get people from content into opportunities for our partners


Role requirement

  • You have 1+ years of commercial experience in digital marketing

  • You have experience of and are willing to own marketing delivery from idea to production, including producing plans and forecasts

  • You have experience in marketing best-practices, processes and frameworks for developing and delivering great marketing at speed

  • You have copywriting skills across paid, earned and owned content

  • You have an understanding of social media and digital advertising formats and specs

  • You have used a CMS before, are able to push content live without assistance

  • You have a keen eye for detail, with design experience of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) and Canva

  • You have experience with marketing software including Mailchimp, Hubspot, Facebook (including Ads Manager), Instagram, LinkedIn, Google (including Adwords and Analytics)

  • You have experience of campaign reporting and analysis (including cohort and ROI), including creating filters, goals and custom reports

  • You take pride in what you create, you are passionate about making amazing social media content for our customers and are word perfect.

  • You are able to take a brand’s tone-of-voice and make it relevant to every moment of customer contact and evolve with it appropriately over time

  • You’ll have a love of all things mobility, and a deep interest in the trends of the industry with a passion for translating those into useful, thought-provoking posts and advertising

  • You have experience working to optimise marketing using research and analytics

  • You can understand data and measure the outcomes your work generates and collaborate with a cross functional team to meet commercial requirements

  • You are comfortable in a high-paced and dynamic environment, a self-starter with a willingness to learn and adapt as our product and situation evolves

  • You are a good communicator in both written and spoken English, due consideration will be given to speech impediments, neurodiversity considerations and strong accents

About Karfu

Karfu, currently in stealth, is a B2C technology start-up in the mobility sector.

We define Mobility as the technologies, products, vehicles and services that enable people and goods to move around freely.

Karfu is an impartial online platform designed to help consumers save money and discover the financial and environmental costs of their ‘mobility’ choices, including vehicles from cars to scooters, across access options from ownership to usership.

The product is currently a desktop and mobile website. Mobile apps (iOS and Android), and a B2B proposition will follow in due course.

We won’t be fully remote forever

  • Whilst these roles will be primarily remote, we are planning on having a flexible office or workspace in London at some stage in late 2021 / 2022, dependent on COVID-19 related developments

  • We currently envisage attendance will be at least 1 day a week in person, with preferred office locations near or between Clapham Junction and Waterloo, with the duration and location subject to change

  • This will require you to live a commutable distance from central London in case we decide to increase the amount of weekly attendance at a later date.
