Who are we?

Twigdoo is an exciting new startup backed by some of the country’s most successful and reputable angel investors and entrepreneurs.

We’re setting out to build a new kind of local services marketplace – one that delivers value to both the consumer and service provider.

We realised that the core asset for any marketplace is the providers themselves and existing platforms are doing them more harm than good.

In turn, consumers are left searching for amazing providers on platforms that simply aren’t there. Furthermore, they are left alone by the platforms should something go wrong.

We want to change that.

We are backed by some of the UK’s most successful and influential entrepreneurs and angel investors who have founded and funded companies like LoveFilm, SecretEscapes, Zoopla, Graze, Tails, Fletcher Research and many more. The collective support of a group like this is something truly rare in the world of startups and we offer you to be a part of it.

What’s the role?

With an initial MVP in place and operating we’re now looking to expand the team in several different ways as particular areas become increasingly important to the expansion of the team. We’re looking for somebody with an eagerness to make an impact, with a product focus, and the technical acumen to help with the on-going development of the product.

You will be working closely with the entire team, and particularly the CTO, to build features, shape the design of the product, and to put your own stamp on a growing platform. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn a broad range of skills, and to hone existing ones in a rapidly iterating environment.

This role is primarily aimed at an engineer with the intelligence to iterate quickly, the knowledge to improve the team’s approaches, along with the experience to consider the wider business when approaching problems, and improve our processes along the way.

What’s the tech?

The age of the company dictates rapid iteration, and the tech is focused on getting the job done, often with proven technologies, though this can change depending on the needs of the business. If you’re only looking to use the “flavour of the month” Javascript framework, or latest time-series database then this job might not be for you. Any or all of the following would be a huge benefit:

  • Python
  • PostgreSQL
  • Distributed workers (RabbitMQ, Redis, Celery)
  • AWS w/Kubernetes

Required skills and experience

You will need to be a keen technologist with the desire to learn new skills, contribute to different areas of a business, pragmatic, and self starting. Rapid iteration and the desire to try new things is definitely encouraged. It’s old hat now, but trying and failing rapidly is the key to rapid iteration. We rate people more on what they can do, not what they’ve done.

The option to work in many other areas is available, and encouraged, as in typical startup style there will be many hats to wear!

Important information!

We are a brand new startup and this role will develop with the company. If you’re looking for something with clearly defined structure, and fixed yearly goals, this is not the right thing for you.

You would be part of the very early team, so this will be just as hard as it will be rewarding. We believe in a good work life balance, and we also work hard to get the job done. Every member of the team wants to succeed, and we’re doing everything we can to make that possible.

Saying that, you’ll also have the chance to build something truly amazing and have an incredibly impact on it, and we think that’s very exciting! :)

Salary range £35,000 — 70,000

We're early stage, so standard share options blurb goes here. Bonus points if you've worked in a startup before and can explain what that means.
