About the role

We’re looking for a tax assistant to support our tax function in processing R&D claims as efficiently as possible. We’re undergoing a period of fast growth and we need someone to help us scale.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing the financial aspect of our smaller clients’ R&D claims, with a view to taking on more complex claims as they develop. Specifically they will be responsible for:

  • conducting cost optimisation calls with clients;
  • advising clients on what costs qualify for the R&D scheme;
  • preparing tax computations and tax returns;
  • undertaking relevant accounts checks;
  • submitting R&D claims to HMRC;
  • tracking the status of claims and investigating payment delays.

This role comes with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, however support will be provided every step of the way.

As a client facing team member, you will also have input into the product direction, working with our product manager regularly in order to further improve and optimise Claimer.

Finally, like in any startup, you may occasionally find yourself working on things outside of your core responsibilities. This could include producing content for social media, getting involved in sales calls, helping with Claimer internal finances, and organising team socials.

Ideal candidates will have
  • Over two years experience in a mixed tax role or six months in a pure R&D tax role.
  • Basic corporation tax knowledge and experience, including preparing corporation tax computations
  • Excellent attention to detail and an aptitude for numbers
  • Strong organisational skills, effectively managing multiple clients simultaneously
  • Self-starter and quick to learn, familiar with the CIRD
  • Ability to review company accounts as well as Xero or other accounting systems to identify potential R&D qualifying costs
