The team at Huggg are on a mission to become the world’s best gifting platform. We’re looking to add another Software Engineer to our growing team who shares our ambition in achieving that goal.

At the top, where it should be

We choose to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, parental status, veteran status, disability status or on any other basis. It’s unforgivable to be any other way.

Our software engineers all come from different backgrounds, we do not ask for formal qualifications, we’re interested in speaking to any and all individuals who love learning and share the same vision as we do.

Our Culture

At Huggg, we think big and don't allow boundaries to limit our imagination. We promote an open and honest working environment and know Huggg is a safe place to take risks through our no-blame policy. We challenge, question and debate to get the best out of each other and get stuff done, each and every day. We encourage everyone to share ideas and be involved in as many parts of the business as they want to be. Every Monday, we have a company-wide standup to go over areas of focus, ensuring everyone has an understanding of what's happening inside the business. We round off the week with a company-wide retrospective, presenting progress and highlights to the team (beer optional!).

The Role

As part of our core product team, you will work with members from all disciplines to build and support our core products. Making people happy is key to us, so it’s pivotal that we listen to our customers in order to achieve that goal. You will be exposed to all areas of our stack. On a day-to-day basis, you may be working on our recipient experience, our buying experience or any one of our core microservices. If something is of a particular passion for you, you will have the opportunity to specialise in that.

Over the past year, we’ve moved quickly. We’ve built things and broken things, but ultimately, we’ve ended up with a great product and a loyal customer base. We’re looking for someone who’s keen to get involved in our next chapter.

You should apply if

  • You have strong experience working on a large technology product
  • You want to be involved in building our vision
  • You have Javascript experience, especially Node.js
  • You see the necessary evil of automated testing
  • You have an understanding of microservice architecture

Our Tech

Our stack is written in Node.js with a legacy PHP app which we’re actively deconstructing into Node.js microservices. Our front-end apps are written in Vue.js and React. All our microservices are scheduled and run on Kubernetes with all of our infrastructure defined as code and launched with Pulumi. We use MySQL and MongoDB databases with Redis and Elasticsearch where appropriate.

We have a strong DevOps culture favouring frequent deploys, with GitLab being used for continuous integration and delivery. All changes to master branches are peer-reviewed to promote code quality and knowledge sharing.

What’s in it for you?

  • A competitive salary depending on experience.
  • The choice of working remotely or in one of our Bristol or London offices (when safe to do so)
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • A training budget to spend on your professional development (or a hobby of yours!)
  • Access to our wider VC’s family of portfolio companies and your peers inside that family
  • Optional team yoga on a Tuesday
  • And, of course, regular treats - we practise what we preach!

Our interview process is normally a short phone interview, a small take-home coding task and call to discuss it, followed by a longer video interview with a few members of the team. We promise we won’t make you write code on a whiteboard.

Please do not hesitate in contacting [email protected] if you’d like to find out more before you apply.
