With a few taps, motorists can compare live offers for their car, select the best deal and sell within 24 hours. In 2018 we launched our premium marketplace, connecting sellers directly with specialist dealers. Our business is growing rapidly and we are helping thousands of people get more for their car, and sell in a fast and user-friendly way.

We are now looking for a talented web developer to join us and help develop the technology and tools to power the next step of our journey.

We are currently a small, passionate team focused on creating amazing user experiences and solving hard problems with technology.

This role is based in our six-strong product development team where you will develop major features and new products in our roadmap. It’s an opportunity to join a fast-growing startup in the early stages, build amazing products with a high degree of influence and change an industry.

About the role

This is a varied role, where you’ll work on everything from architecting new features to performance optimisation and on apps designed for consumers through to expert users.

  • Developing front-end technology, launching new features and optimising performance

  • Developing customer-facing code and UI with a focus on usability, performance and progressive enhancement

  • Working with our internal APIs to provide read and write data to our backend services

  • Working closely with design and product teams to create work that has excellent UX and production values

  • Working in our flat-structured development team, and getting involved in the technical and product strategy of the business

  • Championing and implementing software development best practices to ensure our code is high quality, well-tested, scalable and secure

  • Experimenting with new techniques, tools and frameworks to keep us at the cutting edge of modern Javascript development

You’ll perform this role across all our products including:

  • Our customer-facing website at (an isomorphic React app) where thousands of people value and sell their car every day

  • Our internal app, Dashboard, where the Motorway team access customer and vehicle data and report on performance

  • Our collection of microservices (node.js with Express and Sequelize) that power our user-facing applications through RESTful APIs

  • A top secret product we’re in the early stage of developing but can’t yet talk about publicly 😉

What we’re looking for

  • 🎓A degree or college-level education in computer science, technology, or another web or design-related subject

  • 💼At least two years of commercial experience working with web apps and websites in a production environment

  • 👩‍💻Experience working with JavaScript. In particular we are interested in people with experience of ES6/7 features, and technologies and frameworks such as node.js, React, Vue, Express or Sequelize. We are also interested in people with experience of bundling tools like Webpack and Brunch

  • 🎨Experience with HTML and CSS. In particular, experience developing UI in a componentised way with a strong focus on aesthetics, UX, performance and accessibility

  • 🛠Experience working with version control (we use Git and GitHub), automated testing and continuous integration

  • 🤸‍Experience of agile software development practices and working collaboratively in a team environment

  • 💬Good written and verbal communication skills, a team player

  • ❤️A passion for technology and software, demonstrated by personal projects, blog posts or contributions to open source projects

Salary range £40,000 — 60,000
