We’re looking for a brand-obsessed community connoisseur to join our fast-growing brand-tech scaleup startup, as we set our sights on global expansion in 2022. You’ll have ownership of managing and growing our network of the best D2C eCommerce brands in the UK, through online and offline activities.

If you’re an innate brand builder who has previous experience in building communities from the ground up (ideally at a consumer brand, in a commercial setting or at a B2B SaaS company) and are looking to take the next step in building something truly remarkable then we want to hear from you.

THE COMPANY

Duel was founded by world-record-breaking adventurer and former brand ambassador Paul Archer, alongside viral games developer Naio Tsarouchis.

They believed that purpose-led brands are changing the way we all live and set out to define how the greatest brands of tomorrow grow through Brand Advocacy. Duel exists to prove that caring for people and the planet builds brand, which builds long term and exponential profit returns.

Our Brand Advocacy Platform allows mid-level to enterprise brands to do just that - scaling how they manage their relationships with thousands of advocates and brand ambassadors. We’re proud today that brands such as Monica Vinader, Charlotte Tilbury, Rab, BeautyPie, KUHL and Tropicfeel (to name a few) are doing just that.

The Duel team is made up of psychologists, brand experts and community builders from companies including Amazon, Treatwell, Bain and Lululemon as well as young entrepreneurs, psychologists and other exceptional talent.

THE ROLE

We believe that a brand is not its logo, its product or its name - it is its reputation among its network of people, its sub-communities of customers, ambassadors, employees and how it interacts and creates value and meaningful experiences for every individual within them. By providing them with a remarkable experience we can turn them into advocates, and it’s this advocacy that will grow the company. The way we grow Duel is no different. We don’t have a conventional sales team, and instead, use the power of brand and community building to solve people’s problems and drive authentic demand, and you’ll be managing the beating heart of this.

In the role you’ll:

Hire, manage and mentor a team of Community/Network Executives, who will support you in nurturing Duel’s network of brand builders

  • Design and execute on a calendar of content to add value to brand builders. This includes events, round tables, peer networking, masterclasses and more, both online and off.

  • Build an outreach machine that grows the network to an ambitious size, ensuring we’re present in any space that the network is present in. This includes email/Linkedin outbound tactics, network referrals, ambassadors and more.

  • Driving distribution for all of Duel’s educational and marketing content/activities to our CRM, in turn generating demand for the product and Brand Advocacy as a whole

  • Keep a pulse on what our community needs, ensuring you understand their challenges inside out and how we can support them at every opportunity

    This will include:

    • Building deep relationships with our brand partners (our paying customers) to understand their needs

    • Introducing brand builders to the Duel platform, as this is one of the most impactful ways we can add value to a brand (and obviously what funds the rest of the activities)

    • Organising remarkable experiences such as events, roundtables and meetups

    • Joining the dots to connect different brand builders, so they can help each other and facilitate an environment of learning and expansion

    • Use the company’s customer relationship management platform to track all your conversations so you never lose track of brand builders in our network

    • Keep up with the latest in the brand and retail industry, identifying opportunities within it and starting important conversations

    We want someone who’s excited about making a significant impact on people and is eager to help drive the business from a community perspective as we move into a key point in our growth. You’ll represent Duel and what we’re about to every brand builder willing to listen.

    You will:

    • Be a natural networker - connecting people and building networks is what gives you the most energy

    • Have built communities before. In fact, it's probably so innate that you can’t help it - your IG/ WhatsApp/LinkedIn/ Facebook is a black book of people who gravitate around you

    • Be able to prove you’re the beating heart of every organisation you’ve been in. You’re the person who arranges your friends’ social lives and you thrive off meeting people and growing your personal network (both online and offline).

    • Be authentic, personable, empathetic and genuine – you are the kind of person who has a hunger to learn all about someone when you meet them. You ask questions and you genuinely have an interest in the answers

    • See personal growth as a way of life; there’s always something to learn and you’re eager to learn it

    • Know exactly what makes great brands, great, and you’ll have strong beliefs, loosely held - you’ll fight to the death when you believe in something… but be willing to shift perspectives when faced with new information

    • Have a solutions-oriented approach; ability to pivot conversations and recommend creative solutions on the fly

    • Be a natural storyteller and creative thinker - someone who brings contrarian, provocative and remarkable ideas to the table

    SKILLSET / EXPERIENCE

    • Proven experience leading a team responsible for nurturing and building a community/network - either through marketing or sales, online or offline.

    • Experience in leading community or multi-channel marketing & events, as well as other initiatives

    • Proven interest and experience in brands, brand building and marketing

    • Experience working face-to-face with partners, customers or potential clients in some capacity

    • Ideally, you’ll have experience working in a high growth tech startup

    Salary range £45,000 — 65,000
