We’re looking for a Data Engineer to build our analytics pipeline and conduct extensive statistical modelling on the future Podium ecosystem.

We’re a small startup based in Oxford, UK and – having just closed our first round of fundraising – we are seeking a diverse group of passionate, creative, socially conscious individuals to join our team.

We aim to launch a beta version of the platform mid-2021, with full launch in early 2022.

We need…

  • 4+ Years working in a Data Science/Engineering Team

We need people with a proven track record. We’re eager to mentor those who lack (or have been denied) experience, but first we need the people who can become those mentors.

  • 2+ Years working on live Apps

Analytics and Live Ops are broad fields, covering multiple platforms and phases of operation – we need people with a good spectrum of experience.

  • 2+ Projects of detailed statistical modelling & simulation

We need to make sure the Podium core algorithm is balanced, efficient, and secure against attempts at corruption. We’ve designed for these things, but need someone who can simulate this design, research the limits of its capabilities, and inform further enhancements.

  • Experience building Data Reduction Pipelines

We’re planning a wholly new approach to ethical data science. We need someone who can create data pipelines from scratch to realise this design.

  • Someone deeply committed to diversity, equality, and social justice

If you don’t think Black Lives Matter, don’t believe #MeToo, or don’t know that Trans Rights are Human Rights – this isn’t the job for you.

We’d like…

  • A specialist in Data Visualization

Communication is a vital data science tool – but beyond that, we want to prioritise transparency by making our simulations and analytics open to all. We’re looking for someone who can build universally accessible, public-ready dashboards.

  • An avid user of social media, despite its flaws

Understanding the problems is the first step to solving them. We’re looking for someone with the familiarity to see what needs fixing and what needs preserving.

  • An activist mindset

We’re not just a team, but the inaugural government for a democratic platform. We’re looking for passion that extends beyond the software to the positive change it can make in the world.

  • Experience working in start-ups

A small, dedicated team is very different to a big studio. We’ll happily accommodate those who need to adjust, but – ideally – we’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running.

  • A pragmatic approach

There are times that call for rapid, disposable code and those that call for efficient, long-term code. We’re looking for someone comfortable with both and who knows when each is needed.

We’re operating with a flat salary structure at this stage of development, so this is currently the same as the leadership team. As the company grows, so will this figure.
