We need a web developer who loves games, AR, and dead drops.

About us

Bright Little Labs is building a kids media giant for the 21st century. We make kids’ products that promote critical thinking, computer science and equality - and are now building our first web app.

We started on Kickstarter with our flagship story Detective Dot - a nine-year-old coder who is on a dangerous mission from the C.I.A. (Children’s Intelligence Agency). Kids can join the CIA and carry out personalised activities on and offline. Now we need your help to bring these digital activities to the masses.

We started on Kickstarter, reached 30 countries, got Cabinet Office backing, and have won a few of awards. Next up: we’re launching in 22,000 schools and making cartoons and games. Boom. We’re growing fast and we need someone with interactive web magic to help us bring our brand the masses. If you believe wholeheartedly in the power of stories and toilet humour to inspire the next generation, get in touch.

About you

You are a big kid and you love games, toys and cartoons. You have experience with HTML/CSS/JS and building creative interactive websites. You’re comfortable working in a startup environment (less structure, more freedom) and turning interactive prototypes into web-friendly products. You love parallax scrolling, interactive backgrounds, and funny GIFs.

We need help with these sorts of tasks

  • Developing a responsive website for children - fun and whimsical front-end details inc. Interactive backgrounds, layered visuals that play hide and seek, and buttons that trigger animations, disappear etc.

  • Developing user login (off the shelf hacks or building the backend database)

  • Integrating Blockly and building HTML5 games (should have familiarity with a 2D library)

  • Integrating with third-party APIs such as Snapchat geofilters, PopJam, Alexa

  • Building templates for Shopify and Mailchimp

  • Bonus: experience with a WebAR platform such as AR.JS, Argon, Awe, or Blippar.

  • Double bonus: experience working with Unity or some other game engine to enable eventually launching cross-platform

We offer

  • An awesome role helping to define the future of a very exciting brand that promotes diversity

  • Exposure - we’re a high-ish profile project and we work with exciting people

  • Flexible working arrangements - the role is part-time or freelance for now, with the intention of joining us full time in the new year

Salary is dependant on experience. Starting immediately in our cosy office in Shoreditch.

Please complete this task and write us a cover letter telling us why you want to work with us.
