About Zappar

We are Zappar, an award winning AR platform and creative studio rolled into one. It's our mission to democratize AR & MR.At Zappar we make tools that help developers around the world build augmented reality experiences. Our Universal AR SDK for Unity is the world’s first augmented reality plugin for Unity that supports Unity’s WebGL build platform for the mobile web, alongside iOS, Android and Desktop platforms. The Universal AR SDK supports a common C# API and feature set across all our supported platforms so developers can easily build cross-platform experiences from a single codebase.

Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a talented Unity developer with professional experience building tooling and plugins for Unity to help drive and shape our next-gen AR content development tools for Unity.

With Universal AR we have a particular focus on the mobile web as a primary target platform, so the role will also include integrating our hosting service for WebAR content to allow single-click publishing, and additional web runtime focussed support in areas such as streaming video where Unity’s own internal implementations have usability or functionality gaps when targeting WebGL on mobile browsers.

In addition to Universal AR, the role will include working on the Unity plugin for our ZapBox product. ZapBox makes 6-DoF VR and MR more accessible and affordable than ever before by combining users’ existing smartphones with our unique computer vision tracking technologies and physical components. You’ll be working on the ZapBox plugin for the Unity XR Plug-in Framework that will allow developers to build native iOS and Android apps for ZapBox.

It's an opportunity to take a leading role in driving our Unity tooling to delight developers building AR, VR and MR experiences using our world leading computer vision technologies, and offering them unprecedented reach through the mobile web output platform.

A few things about you:

  • You have an in-depth understanding of Unity, and how typical Unity projects are built and structured

  • Strong C# skills

  • Experience of Unity plugin development

  • Experience of building delightful custom UIs for the Unity Editor

Experience of these things would also be a bonus:

  • C++, including building native plugins for Unity

  • HTML and JavaScript

  • Building WebGL experiences for mobile browsers

  • Using the Unity XR Framework for VR or MR headsets

  • Building AR experiences with Unity (with AR Foundation or third-party plugins)

These lists aren’t exhaustive or prescriptive: if you feel you have the right skills and experience to make a success of this role, please do get in touch!

Other than the exciting work, any other pluses to working at Zappar?

While our Zappar family are based in a lovely (dog-friendly!) office in beautiful, leafy Chiswick complete with shower facilities, bike storage and surrounded by some amazing shops, coffee shops and pubs, we run a ‘work where you work best’ policy so you can be fully remote if you wish. We operate flexible start and finish times to make life a bit easier for anyone who wants to spend time with their children, join an exercise class or just have a lie in! For those in the office, we have Friday drinks and we have a quarterly town hall where we all get together for updates on the company performance. Our socials have included tours of the Sipsmith’s distillery and a team scavenger hunt across London. We truly are at the cutting edge of AR and have been recognized as one of Fast Company’s ‘World’s Most Innovative Companies’.

We actively encourage underrepresented applicants: if you need any assistance or additional information with applying, please contact Alys Martin (Head of People).
